Story posting instructions for JSONS

Don’t forget that each story should be accompanied by an illustration(s), relevant links and source contact info.

1. Logging in, story posting, appearance, style
–Log in (bottom left of JSONS front page) via the user name and password you were given. Click on “add content” (top left under “stories & media”).

–Although each story should be no longer or shorter than it deserves to be, a ballpark figure might be something in the neighborhood of 300-600 words. Summaries are to be around 50 words

–Copy and paste your story in the main “body text” box on the “add content” page. Place a true summary (not the story’s lead necessarily) in the “summary” box, and add links in the “related sites” box.

–Before you “post” ensure you have the right issue AND section.

–Story text starts with the date of submission (in numerical form ONLY–i.e. 2/17/05) at uppermost left, followed by a blank line and then the text.

–A new paragraph is indicated by leaving a blank line after each paragraph (no indentation needed).
–Make sure “auto format” is clicked on the right side of the posting page.
–For re-write purposes, search for your stories via the JSONS’ search engine through your (author’s) name.

–Printing your stories for your portfolio is best done through the “preview” version of your story.

DON’T FORGET: In your text, names of publications are italicized. Titles of plays, articles, etc., are in quotes.

2. Summaries

Each summary is to start with the author’s name in bold and italic (via HTML tags). Text starts at the next line–no blank line between author’s name and text of summary. Summaries are to be around 50 words

3. Headlines
If you are in a Paraschos class, before you start the text of your headline, put a number indicating if this is your 1st, 2nd, 3rd, etc., story. Put a slash after it and then the headline.

Headlines use capitals for the first word and proper names. Everything else is lc. Unless so instructed, you DON’T need subheads.

4. “Media” (photos, audio, video, etc.)

–The picture in “position 1″ always accompanies the summary on the front page. If you include a caption with it, it also will appear on the front page, something we don’t do. Import the picture twice and make sure the one in “position 1″ has no caption. An editor will show you how to make that picture invisible and replace it with the picture in “position 2″ –the same picture but with a caption, which will now appear in Pos. 1….

–Pictures can be moved around within your text. An editor will show you how that’s done.

–No story should go without “media.” Pics, drawings, audio and video clips are recommended. An editor will assist you with importing these media and the recommended formats and sizes.

–Make sure you give “media credit” when you submit a picture or clip, otherwise you have to re-import it. Captions can be amended after submission, but not “media credits.”
